Free up storage space on Mac

Learn what to do if your Mac startup disk is almost full, or you don't have enough storage space.

Step 1: Open Terminal

  • Press Command (⌘)+Space → type Terminal and hit Return

Step 2: Run the Command

  • Paste the command into the Terminal window and press Return

sudo rm -rf ~/Library/Caches/* /tmp/* && sudo purge && dscacheutil -flushcache

What this command does:

  • Finds and removes temporary system files
  • Cleans app caches and outdated logs
  • Frees up space without touching personal data
